If money is the second God of the earth than it is obviously truth that water is the second life of whole life. No one can deny it. The total earth is constituted by 29.1% of land and rest of 70.9% is water. So, the importance and value of water can not be expressed easily. It is one of the vital elements of the environment. It is essential to keep environment balanced. But it's a sorrowful matter that this water is being polluted by many ways. When water gets polluted with dirt, dust, filth etc is called water pollution. There are many reasons behind water pollution. Firstly, man pollutes water by throwing waste into it. They throw polythene bags, various types of dust into the water and make water pollution. Secondly, farmers use chemical fertilizers and insecticides in their fields. Rain and flood water washes away some of these chemicals and they get mixed with water in rivers, canals and ponds. Thirdly, mills and factories pollute water by throwing their poisonous chemicals and waste products into rivers and canals. A research on environment recently discovered that the poison which mills and factories throw is so dangerous which kills fish and plants. Fourthly, water vehicles pollute rivers by dumping oil, food waste and human waste into them. Unsanitary latrines and unsafe drains standing on the bank of the river and canal are also responsible for water pollution. Oil tankers also pollute water by cleaning out their tanks at sea. Finally, a lot of "kutcha" drains run into rivers and canals. These drains carry human waste and filth and let them fall into the water. The after effect of water pollution is so harmful to human health. We may become sick if we drink polluted water. Many people of our country are suffering from many diseases because drinking contaminated water. Polluted water is responsible for disease like diarrhea, cholera diphtheria etc. It also destroys fish and plants. Therefore, water pollution is a menace not only but also to plant and marine lives. It is crucial that we save our environment from water pollution for our own betterment and benefits. Government alone can't reduce water pollution unless our help. People individually should think about it. Motivation, introducing strict law may minimize this problem half. And rest half is depends on public awareness.
